Microsoft fucked up their terminal worse than any terminal that comes with any Linux distribution has ever done.
It's illustrative of their general software quality and it's why any developer who isn't a jeet or a massive boomer prefers Linux.
Literally the only reason to use Windows is because of hardware support. Anyone who actually advocates for Windows like you is just a pathetic cuck who supports being kept in a walled garden full of raisin because it's what you're used to.

my CPU is probably less powerful than yours, and you can leave your machine running over night, or set the priority for portage low to prevent it from stealing resources (causing lag) from other things, just leave it running in the background while you do your work
>i only need FAT32, exFAT, and NTFS
FAT is obsolete garbage, exFAT is even worse and just asking for fs corruption, and NTFS doesn't even have proper journaling, plus its dograisin slow, enjoy losing half of your data because you get 1 bad sector or a power outage
>ZFS
its actually very nice to have things like ZFS or btrfs when you need them, but i meant ext4, do wintoddlers seriously still defragment their drives?
>GNU isnt fast enough
you are doing something very wrong then, kick some useless junk out of your kernel and don't compress your initramfs, this should speed it up drastically
hibernation works fine, but i don't use it because i literally don't need it
>DEs
works with any wm i used so far, but yeah this is what happens when things are automated and made "user friendly" instead of letting the user take care of it manually
>wah wah i915
i think you want mesa-amber then, or if its GM45, mesa should just work (at least for gentoo)
they did drop i965 support in mesa though
>themes
try a window manager, but yes themes are poorly implemented thanks to (((toolkits))) (gtk/qt), if you asked me, everything should rely on .Xresources
>filezilla
why are you even using that raisin?
also try gentoo
>meme screensaver and locker
i dunno but i just use xss-lock and i3lock, i wrote a script to set my keyboard layout to us altgr-intl before locking, and i'm fine
>double click
its much faster to run eix something, and emerge something
>up to date browser
>firewall
outdated browsers without JS support should unironically be more secure than modern browsers
>known good websites
so you're one of those "durr hurr i'm not clicking that" retards eh?
>nouveau
thats because nouveau depends on proprietary firmware for any novideo gpus after kepler (post 780ti models), afaik on debian you need to manually enable support for that because freedumbs policy or something
without blobs on those cards, you wont have hardware acceleration or clocks above the base clock
>i dont have the time
it actually costs less time to maintain it because everything is automated, than it takes to cope with debian/arch crap
>they look ugly!
if you want fancy garbage, you will have to deal with raisin performance, but try chadWM or hyprland
oh and try using i3lock or slock for your lockscreen, if you want something pretty, betterlockscreen also exists
try using xss-lock, or try not using it if you're already using that, xss-lock triggers the lockscreen right after the lid switch is detected, BEFORE suspending, otherwise it would be triggered AFTER suspending (somethingsomething imaginary theoretical speculative security issues)
>>10891
you are deprecated

every car driver has to at least know how to change tires, change oil, fill up gas, change fuses or lights, etc…
the equivalent to doing an engine swap would be to learn kernel development, nobody is asking you to do that.
and yes, you are a retard if you don't know how to play an instrument or compose music.
>wah wah you have to tinker with it 20 minutes per week
you don't HAVE to tinker, i literally don't have to update jackraisin, but fucking around with things is fun, thats what hackers do
if i don't like how tabs are managed in my web browser, i can change it or remove tab support entirely
people who use cars but don't know basic raisin about working on cars ARE stupid, stop whining, its true.
if you use something, learn how to use it and how it works.
>obscure OS
i'm a sysadmin so its actually my job to know every single thing i could possibly learn, and the entire internet depends on GNU, if anything winraisin is obscure, EVERYTHING ELSE is UNIX-like nowdays.
>>10904
i'm a tech worker and a hobbyist, my mom is neither but still uses GNU, and she doesn't need to know how to configure a kernel, she just reads up on how to use genkernel, runs 2 commands, and calls it a day
>>10907
99% of the world population is retarded.
>>10908
damn you were quicker than me, but you saved me 20 seconds of typing out text, so thanks
>hardware support
even doe wincuck has less hardware support than fucking android at this point, it only supports 1 architecture, and only the latest few machines running on that architecture. you need bullraisin like UEFI, TPM, and a FUCKING WEBCAM to make wincuck 11 work. GNU/Linux literally runs on fucking SPARC stations, and if you look into netBSD (another UNIX-like OS), it runs on the fucking sega dreamcast, as well as toasters
>>10909
the only hardware that won't just work is 10% of all the RGB gaymer garbage that requires proprietary guiraisin "control" software and a botnet razer cloud account to barely work, stop buying defective hardware.
99% of all the hardware just werks with GNU, and unless you're building your own custom kernel with all the junk stripped out, you don't even need to manually install drivers in most cases

You troonix faggots haven't even come up with something better. Why do you whine and cry about windows this much and can't make windows 95 that isn't spyware or walled off?
Do it, make it and you'll win support. If the average user EVER has to touch the terminal you failed. Learn what "intuitive" means. It basically means no reliance on memory recall, you can learn as you go, figure stuff out just by fucking with it. Look at Windows, android, Macos, or an iphone, all are very intuitive. That is how you win people. Grasp this simple fucking fact, if you can't do that, you lose. Understand? You're losing right now and you have the audacity to gloat. It's pathetic. GUI won. You ain't got the cards.

>make windows 95 that isn't spyware or walled off
There are plenty of Windows clone distributions

there are literally a hundred terminal emulators, and every single one is better than anything microshaft could come up with.
personally i use st-flexipatch with fancy stuff like sixel support and a vi-like visual/search mode for copypasting/selecting text without a mouse, searching without a mouse, etc…
i can literally watch movies directly in my terminal emulator, while wintoddlers can't even render coloured text at 2fps…
>wah wah why dont you make

so how do you figure out how to change some config on windoze, do you really dig around in 20 sub menus until you find some option thats named in a retarded confusing way, or do you remember all that raisin?

read the gentoo handbook, and you throw this into your make.conf to tell portage that you have an intel gpu and want intel gpu support for the things you install, it will take care of that automatically
if you have multiple gpus you can add other raisin to that too, and won't have to manually install drivers

I need FAT for my Camera, I need FAT/NTFS for usbs and it'll work perfectly fine since nothing requires EXT4
I tried all the drivers for the GMA, i965 already had its raisin installed and I remember fucking around with gallium3d or whatever and it made 0 difference
Filezilla works a damn sight better than gFTP, no I am not using CLI niggerware to do ftp
I will not try gentoo, I am sticking with Windows 7 until palemoon no longer updates for reasons
I am not writing scripts to get screen locking to work, fuck that raisin
I need a modern browser with JS support to run raisin like my bank
You literally cannot get Debian 12 to boot with pre Maxwell GPU's with functioning accel, debian has enabled that support by default and nouveau still has unacceptably raisin performance. You cannot force the 341 drivers to run, it WILL brick your install
Swaylock is neat
Its not just rgb guff that gets the axe on the move to linux, take my netbook for instance:
Its an acer aspire D255E, a netbook that literally shipped with linux and still doesnt work quite right with it. The shortcomings include:
>Lack of scrolling gestures
>Nonfunctional WIFI indicator across every distro
>Inability to undervolt the CPU which is BIG
>WIFI chip power states are broken, will run at full hog 24/7 and it'll run HOT
>Disabling the wifi chip somehow makes the system draw 0.5 more watts
>Hibernate is just broken regardless of swap space
>Inferior GPU drivers compared to the Chell 1.8b drivers available on windows
>Inability to overclock the CPU via FSB which is small but a 2ghz overclock on an atom allows 480p playback on youtube
>Slow sleep times
On TDE my netbook at 50% brightness drew 9W idle and 12.5 watts under full load, with Windows 7 my netbook draws 5.5/6W idle and 9 watts under full load thanks to actually functional WIFI power states and a nifty undervolt, this gives me an extra hour of battery life for free and cuts out a lot of the heat generated by the netbook
For my T9400 system, debian cannot properly run at all and debian is the best distro for normal people so I'm writing it of completely for that system

Do I need to explain to you that before the GUI there were countless people far smarter than you that weren't interested in learning computers and only became interested after windows 95?

You're a midwit. You have broken logic. Troonix faggots are all fucking midwits who equate learning troonix with intelligence, everyone else is just stupid. It's so cringe and childish.

I am speaking DOWN to you, not the other way around. You're delusional and feel like you have bargaining power as you continue banging your head against the wall for 30 years, alone. I am speaking to the loser, you LOST, you lost 30 years ago. I am trying to do you a favor and get you to understand this simple fact.
You are the rock thrower who scoffs at the spear thrower.
You are the spear thrower who scoffs at the atlatl user.
You are the atlatl user who scoffs at the bowman.
You are the bowman who scoffs at crossbowman.
You are the crossbowman user who scoffs at firearm user.

The world moved on. There is no going back. We have the GUI, it's here to stay. Now make windows 95.

how about you use sftp, ideally sshfs
you can just mount a directory from one machine to another over ssh, and access that however you want (WITH working thumbnails and whatnot!)
mkdir serverdata
sshfs user@server:/data/somedir $HOME/serverdata
>wah wah i will not try gentoo
sour grapes
>wah wah i will not write a script
you have to write one if you use a 'minimalist' lockscreen that just does 1 thing, and want to do anything like changing your keyboard layout, i did that because i'm too lazy to actually implement layout switching into i3lock, and use a russian/korean/hebrew layout half of the time, rather than an english one
if you want plain ftp, try pcmanfm, its the least cancerous gui file manager i can think of
>muh bank
if your "bank" knew jackraisin about security they would let you use your own local free as in freedom crypto wallet instead of some insecure JS garbage
also, try suckless surf
>nouveau still has raisin performance
because the signed proprietary firmware still doesn't like any drivers that aren't signed by novideo
>brick your install
literally press e in grub and blacklist that module kek
>scrolling gesture
try switching between synaptics and libinput drivers, run xinput, xinput list-props on your touchpad (for my trackpoint it'd be xinput list-props TPPS/2\ IBM\ TrackPoint), and xinput set-prop TPPS/2\ IBM\ TrackPoint PROPNAME HERE
figure out what the gesture-scrolling one is called, or worst case you can just emulate it if your touchpad doesnt actually support that
>wifi indicator
thats defective hardware stuff, you can probably fix this manually by echoing something somewhere into /sys/, or maybe you forgot some weird ACPI fuckery needed for your rare unicorn hardware
>undervolt cpu
that'd be a hardware issue
>wifi chip power states
blame proprietary firmware/drivers for this, have you tried ath9k?

Chell 1.8b is a community driver for GMA drivers, fixing up intels mess and providing far superior drivers than both linux and intels official windows ones, I managed to get 25fps in GMOD back in the day using these drivers
>mpv literally does 4K@24Hz h264 on my X200
GMA 3150 cannot decode H264, all non MPEG2 decoding is done by the CPU without a broadcom decoder chip that replaces the wifi chip
>ever heard of tlp or cpupower/scheduling?
Cpupower cannot touch the FSB or PLL though I used to run a 1333mhz underclock to improve battery life, windows uses a bit less power at 1.67ghz than linux did at 1.33ghz!

>imagine not owning your home
Aus is in the middle of a housing crisis and recession, unfortunately I wasnt born in 1972 and spawned into a pretty broke familiy so home ownership was out of the window from day 1, home ownership in general was a giant meme by the time I entered highschool :)
>how the hell is so much raisin broken then
Dont ask me, ask the kernel maintainers. Guessing some compatibility has been 'nished in recent years
>it can only decode mpeg2 with hardware acceleration
I know
>thats a thing? do they slot into mini pcie slots or something?
Yes and no, you can get ones that fit in mini pcie and also the standard those little wifi chips use. My netbook only has one of those slots and I am not tethering it to ethernet when DVD rips are more than acceptable and it can handle 720p30 locally on the CPU anyways
>slackware should at least work, and fucking solaris?
try gentoo.
I did like slackware, was rock solid but I often clashed with way of installing programs
I still run slackware in my ratchet bootleg NAS
>headless 800mhz laptop with a 1tb hdd running 24/7 that I ftp into whenever
And debian had wifi issues that would permanently break networking on that thing until you reinstalled debian, slackware has no such issues
Still, that thing runs windowmaker and wouldnt work right on laptops
When palemoon drops 7 then I'll relearn slackware or learn gentoo, I never wanna use debian and raisin again
I'll loathe the day I have to ditch 7 though, I'm at a point in my life where I never want to think about my computer again, I dont want to configure anything again, I never want to nano into a config file again, I never want to have winetricks fuck my package manager again because I didnt install the 32 bit binaries on my 64 bit laptop
I'll have to deal with it one day though, I'll be pissed

you could always move to russia, they have a thing called a "shared values visa", you just give them a passport, a negative HIV test, an empty criminal record, and tell them that your opinions and traditional values align with theirs (faggots are bad, nazis are bad, the west is evil, families in a traditional marriage with 10 kids are good, etc), they will give you a visa and once you're in russia, a permanent residency permit.
they also have a land program where they will give you a few acres of land in a random location somewhere on the countryside (because everyone is a fucking city slicker) if you promise to actually homestead it for (i think 2 or 4) years, if you do, you can keep it. if not, you have to pay them for it. wood and other building materials are dirt cheap, food is dirt cheap, land is basically free, and even rent is very cheap compared to the west

Good to know, when I'm a bit older and the job everything market is even more rooted with indians and corrupt everythings I may very well fuck off from aus
>theres no way around it, get comfortable with emacs, mg, or vi(m)
Nano works fine enough, the worst part of configuring is linux's slow boot times, the process in the case of getting cpupower to run as an elevated systemd task is
>configure thing
>reboot
>wait 3 minutes to boot into desktop
>thing didnt work
>change thing
>reboot
>repeat ad infinitum until you give up and just make a cronjob
>spent an hour doing a task that throttlestop can do in 20 seconds award
<reddit spacing
>and HOW would it fuck your package manager?
It just did, I had installed wine and winetricks, it didnt work at all so I uninstalled the wine package and then it had sent apt into some form of gridlock where it wanted to delete fuckin everything and had 30 missing dependencies that had to be met before I could uninstall winetricks, all of these deps were for wine but I couldnt reinstall wine since apt and dpkg were broken
Paraphrasing and going off of memory but that took a day to fix
>better get used to gentoo now so you don't have trouble later

%wheel ALL=(ALL:ALL) NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/cpupower frequency-set -g conservative

>3 minutes
this is why i compile my own kernel, and seriously, try NOT compressing your initramfs, it really helps
my thinkpad takes about 20 seconds to boot into X11 and load everything, WITH full disk encryption, and including all the bios/grub autism
(+5s for entering a password at boot)
>apt
this is why i dont use debian, its so easy to accidentally nuke dependencies recursively and break raisin

I'm a software engineer, using other OSes is a waste of my time. It's the best tool for my job, so I already have Linux set up how I like and know how to use it.
If someone wants to LARP as a hacker and use the terminal that's their problem, not a problem with Linux.
Should have used Ubuntu, or just used Windows if they want to play games and don't care about personal privacy. Just don't start deepthroating Bill Gate's cock and have a melty when someone tells you your OS could be way faster and less full of bugs and UI issues.

the "UI issues" are called toolkits (qt/gtk), if you just stick to openGL and X11 libs (and maybe SDL), you're good.
directx is a giant pile of garbage, everything simple should be xrender/xcb, and everything complicated should be openGL.
the "software engineers" you are thinking about are C# braindamage retards, and half of them are JS code monkeys who use macbooks. anyone who wants to get work done will have to deal with GNU or BSD (probably GNU because *BSD sucks on desktops)
