This might not be the right place to ask but here it goes.
Me and my wife are both 32. She makes $120k a year and I only make $60k at the moment. She has a 401k and match, I have a Roth IRA, and we have a taxable brokerage.
Currently we are putting $2000 into the brokerage per month and itβs sitting at $16k. I put $600 into my Roth every month and itβs at $25k (I started way earlier). Should I let my Roth ride without contributions and start putting my $600 per month into the taxable brokerage? We can probably up the contributions every year as well. My thinking is I donβt want to wait until 59 1/2β to retire. We also get bonuses every year that we plan on throwing into the taxable as well.
β8680[Quote]
>>8671Since when are Swiss in charge for global monetary policy? Touch grass, we're irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. We already bent the knee on EVs and that was one of the last gracing industries (auto) that EU dominated for nearly a century

So I guess the question is how soon do you want to retire?

β8692[Quote]
>>8689It's certainly doable. You'd need the post tax account to have enough to cover you for over a decade, but that's doable if you're willing to take some risks and be more aggressive with growing it in addition to putting more into it.
Also keep in mind that retiring doesn't mean zero income. A lot of 'retired' folks will work part time to keep themselves from getting bored, and that little bit of extra income goes a very long way to stretching savings. Do a little gig work, some freelance, stuff like that, it helps a lot.

β8737[Quote]
>>8694Working retail sucks ass. I would kms if I had to work at Costco at 40 just to """retire""".
If you are spending 100k per year to sustain your current lifestyle, then you should aim to have enough money saved to use 100k of it every year forever. Using the 4% rule that is 2.5 million saved by whatever age you retire. If that 100k comes from a taxable account then you need more to pay taxes also.
Also keep in mind you pay off your mortgage eventually so a large expense goes away so you may not need to spend as much as you do now.
I picked 100k to spend but if you want to retire early you should probably spend much less so you don't have to save as much.
Based on the numbers you gave, in 15 years you would have about 1 million saved assuming it gets 7% intetest (10% - 3% interest to compare to current dollars). Which makes your retirement income about 40k/year.
