I've seen a few TJPW my friend sent me and enjoyed them. I know that Stardom is the more "workrate" of the two. I will check them out. I recently watched the Marigold vs Marvelous tag-team match from last month(?) I really enjoyed that, probably my favorite match of the year so far. I've been slowly intergrating myself into Joshidom geg

I actually did enjoy that. I think these two are better than literally any of the women in WWE or AEW. That other one is starlight kid right?

 â„–6028[Quote]

>>6020
Glad it worked for you brother!
Yeah, that's Kitto. She's got a bit of a following of her own.
A lot of joshis are great like they are. The dirty little secret is that quite a few of us joshi fans are just wrestling fans disillusioned with everything else who have come to realize that Stardom is sort of one of the strongest wrestling companies going right now. I prefer men's wrestling when it's good but it just isn't cutting it for me these days.
Stardom isn't quite as good as it was a few years ago and it's going through a transition now because it lost two of its biggest names at the last big show. But it's set up to have a strong year even without them.
It's pretty watchable stuff.

 â„–6035[Quote]

>>6028
Damn and I used to think you guys were just gooners lol. This stuff actually is pretty good. Theres something about it that feels very different from womens wrestling in the US. I'm not sure what it is yet, but I like it. Definitely gonna check out a little more.

 â„–6040[Quote]

 â„–6041[Quote]

>>6039
Yeah, I mean these women are really hot I wont deny. Poi has the perfect titties I think, not too big or too small. But this is a wrestling match not a porno theater so I think the ability of the performers is the most important thing. When you see a good mix of beauty and skill, that makes for a good show.

 â„–6049[Quote]

>>6041
>When you see a good mix of beauty and skill, that makes for a good show.
Exactly, now you've got it.
If I want to goon, I'll go watch porn. But joshi wrestling is nice because the matches can be really good, and I admit that, even when they're not (which can commonly be the case at the bottom of the card - they don't have "development" like WWE does so lower-carders often aren't great), they're at least nice to look at.
What I don't care for is the tendency in Japan to have girls under 18 in companies. I don't think there's anyone under 18 in Stardom anymore, which is nice. I don't really watch the other companies so I can't speak for them.

I mainly watch indie stuff so I'm used to raisinty lowercard matches. One example was that indie show where Flair had his last match. I really enjoyed that one but a lot of the lowercard was crap. So yeah that doesnt bother me. I think its better when people develop on their own, as opposed to being molded in some corporate wrestling school.

Another legendarily brutal match (albeit not technically a death match):
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EjD2-3zQoeQ

Akire Hokuto was one of the joshi wrestling queens of the 90s. Shinobu Kandori belonged to a more shoot-style promotion and was a legit badass. They had real heat and that match was the fruit of it all.

 â„–6074[Quote]

>>6071

 â„–6076[Quote]

I actually remember Akira Hokuto from her WCW run, their womens division wasnt the best but she was really good.

 â„–6077[Quote]

>>6076
She's GOAT tier in my books, alongside Manami Toyota.
Best joshi working today is easily Mayu Iwatani, who was in two of those matches I posted with Iyo. She was the Icon of Stardom and just left for the first time in her career (she went to Marigold, which was founded by the guy who started Stardom - he took her in when she ran away from home to become a pro-wrestler and is a father figure to her)

 â„–6078[Quote]

>>6077
Ok yeah that kong/kaoru match really was great. Vince really fucked up by not doing more with Aja Kong while he had her. After seeing that, I can see that she was way better than I thought. In fact Im going to make a few webms from that one.

 â„–6079[Quote]

>>6078
Prime Aja is great. She's big and strong and always a menace even when she's on the end of a beatdown because she just has to get one good swing in to bring the momentum back her way.
Aja Kong vs Manami Toyota
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xj_Bu01qvIg

 â„–6081[Quote]

>>6079
Yeah its harder for a female wrestler to have that intimidating factor, but Aja Kong has it. When it's an abnormally large woman like her it helps, especially when she does a good job of looking mean. Thats kind of why I always liked Mickie Knuckles. She is not all that nice to look at, but she is hardcore as fuck. I dont really mind when they book her to beat men because its more believable when its her. Same factor with Aja Kong and also Bull Nakano from what I remember.

 â„–6083[Quote]

>>6081
Yeah, I somehow doubt Andy Kaufman would have beaten either Aja or Bull, personally.
Actually, a lot of those old school joshis had a good intimidation factor. Joshi training was mean and they felt like they had a lot to prove so they went all out in ways men often didn't.
Not nearly as mean today after some nasty incidents but you still get the sense that they have a lot more to prove than in certain men's promotions at the moment (cough cough NJPW)

 â„–6084[Quote]

This match is why joshi isn't as brutal as it used to be. It turned into a legit shoot and ended both careers - one due to injury (she had health problems even before she was a wrestler and even gave up the ability to have children so she could wrestle because it was her dream), the other because of the reputation it earned her.

>>6084
Dear god the blond one is fucking crazy, who the fuck is she? It looks like she's probably the meanest prison dyke in asia.

 â„–6091[Quote]

>>6086
It's watchable but their problem is that they don't have any main eventers, which really hurts their cards.
Goto is like the top guy they have, followed by Shingo. Okada's gone, Naito is gone, Tana is washed and retiring, Jay White is gone, no real draws to speak of.
The younger midcarders are alright but there really isn't anyone to season them or for them to build names against.

 â„–6092[Quote]

>>6090
That's Yoshiko. She pretty much got blackballed after this. Her trainer brought her over into her promotion for a bit but she just had go-away heat after this. She made a small name for herself during the pandemic when she lost a bunch of weight and tried to rehabilitate her image a bit but she vanished off the face of the earth in 2022.
Act, the other one, had to retire because her already bad eye was damaged. But she has some social media presence and works with Actwres Girls, which isn't really a wrestling company (although they put on matches) but does wrestling-related stuff.

Really, Goto? That really surprises me. Last I saw he was basically an upper midcarder. I always really liked Shingo, but maybe now my boy Ishii will get that world title run.

 â„–6095[Quote]

>>6092
I can see why, she is absolutely brutalizing this poor girl. Its almost hard to watch. Almost. pepe

 â„–6096[Quote]

>>6093
Well, Goto really doesn't have any business being anything higher than an upper midcarder, that's the problem. They just don't have any bigger, better established names apart from the old timers so he's the World Heavyweight champ now.
I've always been an Ishii guy. But he's short and pushing 50. If it were me, I'd still slap the belt on him. My dream booking for an Ishii run was always that any guy could be the one to believably beat him given his past but he'd keep winning, despite the odds. I think it would have been an exciting run.
But I also don't see Bushiroad taking that chance with him. I'm starting to get the sense that they're kind of the Tony Khans of the puroresu world.

 â„–6097[Quote]

>>6095
>Almost.
kek
The really sad part is that they were both legit good, in different ways. Act was a great storyteller and had a charisma where she easily connected with people. Yoshiko, on the other hand, was legit good in the ring especially for someone who was larger.
In a different universe they'd be two of the names everyone would be talking about WWE and AEW poaching.

 â„–6099[Quote]

One of my favorite matches last year was Mayu Iwatani (who, like I said, is probably the best women's wrestler working today) vs Sareee:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTFm_vDg8mc

What I like about Mayu is that she's dimes in the ring, sells well, is great at connecting with the audience, and she pretty much *never* has a bad match. At least in Stardom, any match she'd have would usually be best of the show unless something else big was happening.
I don't know how she'll do in Marigold considering that the roster is well beneath her in terms of talent but I kind of figure she's going to take a "mom" role of sorts.

 â„–6102[Quote]

>>6096
Yeah it doesn't seem that smart to put it on Goto, if they didnt want to go with one of the old guys like Shingo or Ishii, they could always just put it on someone who isnt that well known and give them a chance.

 â„–6103[Quote]

>>6102
They had it on ZSJ for a bit but there was a ton of interest in Goto *finally* getting the belt when he was booked against him. I think Goto is probably their biggest domestic draw out of all those names, which was why they went with him.
Seems to me like they're building him up with the idea of having one of the younger guys taking it off him. They apparently want to position Shota Umino as the next ace but he just doesn't have "It", at least at the moment. He wrestled at Wrestle Kingdom against ZSJ (Umino didn't win the G1 - ZSJ won and took his title shot early) and it was a giant flop. Yota Tsuji is the strongest of the "younger" talent but he's 32. Yuya Uemura and Ryohei Oiwa are other possible choices, with a slight edge to the latter because he's a little younger but neither has quite the experience as Tsuji. And meanwhile there's Gabe Kidd, who's managed to get over with the fans and had a good match with Kenny Omega several months ago.
It's an interesting scene that isn't quite as bleak as it sounds but there isn't really anyone who "stands out" and that's what they really need.

 â„–6104[Quote]

>>6097
So what caused the shoot? Did they both have the same baby daddy or something?

 â„–6105[Quote]

>>6103
I have to say I never liked Shota Umino, and never particularly liked Iyo/Io. With Shota, I agree with you that he doesn't have what it takes. Even Ren Narita might be better than him because he is at least a decent wrestler. Actually, when I think about it, the smartest move would be to put it on Tsuji. As for Iyo, I admit I am biased because some of her fans are rather obnoxious. that makes me want to hate on Iyo just to piss them off lol.

 â„–6106[Quote]

>>6104
Backstage stuff, mostly. Apparently there was a lot of bullying allowed and quite a bit of jealousy that Act was over as much as she was (again, she got over mostly through showmanship and charisma). The trainer was old school and apparently pushed that attitude.
It also didn't help that Yoshiko was like 22 at the time, young, and brash. There was just a lot of tension that should have never been allowed to reach the point it did. Backstage heat can make for some of the best wrestling but it can also lead to explosions when not managed properly.

 â„–6108[Quote]

>>6105
Kek, Shota is a legit beef but Iyo doesn't deserve it. She was Stardom's original ace and deserved that title. I agree her fans can be obnoxious as fuck though so I see no shame ripping on her to spite them.
I agree about Tsuji. They just need *someone*. Doesn't have to be *the guy*. But he's a much better choice than Shota. I honestly don't know what they're doing with Narita, he seems buried in these conversations due to the whole HoT thing and I don't understand why New Japan would do him that way.

 â„–6109[Quote]

>>6106
Always sad when things get that badly out of hand. It might have actually been better if they had fought out back in the parking lot after the show or something like that. If it had happened like that, there likely would have been people around to break it up before it went that far.

 â„–6110[Quote]

>>6108
Yeah Narita has no charisma but he could maybe develop that. He can at least put on a good match and they could always work with him on the rest. I have always thought Tsuji would become a very big deal, he stands out and everyone seems to like him. And I'll admit, it's not Iyo's fault that some of her fans are filth.

It's the case with a lot of joshi fans, sadly. And I say that as a joshi fan.
I really never got why people complained about "joshipedos" until I started the joshi general. I just wanted to share matches mostly, kind of like I'm doing in this thread. But dear god that thread became a mess, and worse there were people who wanted to flirt with the line I was intentionally trying to avoid.
There's a lot to enjoy about joshi but goddamn are the most outspoken fans a bunch of creepers.

I do see what you meant about Mayu Iwatani being very good. I can kind of see why people talk about her a lot.

 â„–6119[Quote]

>>6115
She has an interesting background as well.
She was gangraped when she was back in school. Dropped out and went full on shut-in afterwards.
Then one day she saw pro-wrestling on TV and got the idea in her head that she wanted to do that. Saw a company offering try-outs so she ran away from home and ended up living under the roof of the guy who started the company.
She was the worst prospect out of the new students but she stuck with it. Paid her dues. Continued to improve. And now she's largely seen as one of the best.
Rossy, the guy who started Stardom, was fired last year for poaching talent to start his new company (he knew the writing was on the wall). Mayu wanted to go with him but didn't because she had a year on her contract and they made a movie about her life story so she stayed on to promote it.
She connects well because, despite being very good, she is also personally quite clumsy, a bit goofy, and is prone to things like getting lost in new cities. WWE had expressed interest in her but she's not really interested in leaving Japan because she has her apartment, her dogs, her life, and is happy with that.

 â„–6124[Quote]
