Most people only experience this phenomenon when their close ones die.
Sometimes the spirit simply becomes visible for one or more people. Sometimes the spirit and some human enter a shared dream (don't need to be asleep for this). Random contacts with unfamiliar spirits are very rare.
Spirits can see us, but we can't see them. And when they try to talk with us, it usually does nothing. There are cases, however when the words you fail to hear while awake are repeated to you later in a dream (the spirit won't be informed).

first, you have to start noticing your periphery. They have always been there. Weird memories that have stuck with you for example is a big one. Anon; spirits are scary, because there arent any grey areas; you are either dealing with a demon or angels/dead people who havent frozen their heart (which is most of them dont worry, most are looking at you right now….)
