It has one good boss from a gameplay perspective. Granted, it's one of the best boss fights in all of ER, but still. The narrative is barebones, and while the ending might be purposefully dissatisfying, it also seems somewhat lacking as a finale to the ER setting. The map isn't much fun to explore after the first time.
Final boss is just bad, and makes me worried that From is going to continue in that direction in terms of the question of how to make bosses more difficult.

Final boss should have been Godwyn, I get the reason why they had Radahn be Miquella's host since he COULDN'T fully kill Godwyn to resurrect him, but still they could have gotten creative with it, and made it a near world ending event that the player has to stop through a boss fight. The raisin we got was lukewarm. DLC is still fun, and extra content is nice.

It has some of the most OP faith weapons in that DLC. The strength arcane one is also bretty gud, but not nearly as crazy as the Dex, and Faith weapons.

Godwyn has an ending dedicated to him in the base game. He was never, ever going to be a boss, it is fundamentally against the entire point of his role in the game.

Initially before Godwyn was murdered Miquella was set on making him his champion, and only defaulted to Radahn when it was apparent that Godwyn couldn't be fully killed, and resurrected, also when he was aware that Ranni was trying to obfuscate the location of the Lands Between by using the moon, and stars to get rid of The Golden Order. Godwyn to a degree though is still sentient, even if it's intermittent blips. This is evident when the Godwyn fish effigy shoots death magic at you when you attack Fia, and even she's shocked that he responds to your assault.

This is a Reddit theory that only emerged after the DLC (Which literally tells us Miquella always wanted Radahn specifically as his champion since his and Malenia's childhood, long before Godwyn's death)

Caste Sol is about Miquella's attempts to undo the effects of the NOTBK through a failed Eclipse ritual, and allow Godwyn and all the soulless demigods to die properly so they can be reborn through Erdtree burial, whatever that entails. His goal was always to keep Godwyn dead, specifically grant him a "true death".

The theory is that Godwyn's body living on while his soul died prevented him from being ressurected, which is why the Miquella organised the eclipse-cult in order to grant him and the soulless demigods Proper Death.
No idea what other guy meant by Ranni "blocking the moon," but her rendering Godwyn's body a living corpse and the source of Living Death obviously confounded Miquella's plan for Godwyn to be his consort if the theory is true.

I just quoted the game directly telling us that Miquella always wanted Radahn, ever since his childhood. I don't know how much more conclusive you can get.

I wish some of the bosses were more challenging thobeit, Messmer and Putrescent Knight are some of the best in the entire game, but Metyr could've used a second phase, and Scadutree Avatar should've had more moves for each phase instead of being more of just the same boss fought three times
