you realize the majority of the people who made early 2000s nintendo as captivating as it was are either dead, retired, or no longer work at nintendo? when you take this into consideration it makes A LOT of sense. essentially games are no longer passion projects, and are now templates for titles. this is why splatoon exists, it's why BoTW, and ToTK exist, and is a big reason why we're getting a Metroid Prime 4, because the template was recreated with Metroid Prime Remastered. It's also why Pokemon hasn't changed nearly at all being an isometric RPG, and why all the 3D open world Pokemon games are so similar.

I'm still waiting for gabenGOD to release a new steam OS console sometime next year for a fraction of the price of this with hundreds of good games right out of the gate + new releases

Blaming the retired talent does not make sense. In Japan especially there is a lot of mentorship.
Blaming corporate also does not make sense. People are buying their products in great quantity.
It is best to simply understand that the audience is quite terrible. The "biggest winners" will always be quite poor for this reason. On the other hand, the gaming audience is excellent as it has a fairly sizable chunk that has good taste. This is why it is the only living medium at the moment. But that audience and those products will rarely sell in comparable numbers to the big winners.
