I agree that Cthulhu is the most overused Lovecraftian element. The problem is less that it's overused, though, and more that the way it's used usually completely misses the point of Lovecraftian horror. Lovecraft wasn't writing horror stories about kaijus or big scary monsters. Cthulhu has been D&D/Funko-Popified in the common eye.
