It never really did much despite being one of the USAF's best jets, there are many stories of it's capabilities and aerobatics footage but even then it's still a highly classified jet.Maybe it just came out too early for it to be useful.

The F-35B, despite being the most advanced plane ever, still uses commie-style VTOL.

The Harrier (third image) has the best VTOL system ever.
