Automatic driver loading. GNUTroons look at this and have a seizure because they are incapable of understanding operating systems this advanced.

NT 3.51 is the official operating system of atlantis, windows 2000 is the official operating system of agartha, irix 6.5 is the official OS of hyperborea, and ubuntu is the official OS of wakanda

Many people do not know this but it is true! IRIX was the only good UNIX.

??????????????????????????
loonix ships like one billion drives by default or something like that

 β„–26064[Quote]

But I only need the one I am using. I don't need the installer to copy every possible kernel module for every disk controller to my hard drive.

Freetards be like:
>windows is le bloat
meanwhile linux:

 β„–26076[Quote]

>shipping a few megs of drivers with automatic module loading to enable seamless hotplugging by default
<heh linux is so bloated.
>not shipping gigabytes of redundant configuration menus with mobile size buttons and website loading times by default
<NOOOOOOOO!!!!! YOU'RE NOT BEING USER FRIENDLY TOWARDS OUR HECKING BIPOC TRANS QUEENS!

Stop confusing operating environment and operating system. We are talking about NT vs. Linux here, not GNOME vs. Win32.

 β„–26088[Quote]

I'd like to see you use NT without Windows.

loonix with 6 gorrilion drivers is still smaller than wangblows doe

Comparison of the size of the operating system (not including operating environments or add on software)
<Linux (RHEL7)
vmlinuz: 6 MB
/lib/firmware: 512 MB (technically not part of the OS but included for fairness because many Windows drivers bake firmware into SYS files)
/lib/modules: 42 MB
total OS size: 560 MB
<Windows 10
ntoskrnl.exe: 11 MB
hal.dll: 18 KB
System32/Drivers: 146 MB
total OS size: 157 MB

Btw I forgot to include lsass, svchost, etc. for windows and ld-linux for linux but you get the point. Not really enough difference in the os size diff to write home about. If you want to compare Windows and Linux you have to compare with a similarly featured desktop Linux distribution, like Ubuntu or Fedora

 β„–26095[Quote]

>>26087
retarderald, Win32 is a whole useespace. That’s more like trying to compare explorer.exe and GNOME, and there really is no equivalent to Win32 cause Windows NT’s idea of a userspace is autistic and mach-like, so the closest you’ll get is comparing GNU Hurd or Darwin or similar. Which, all 3, surpriserino, are taped together meme OSes, cause microkernels are autismeralds

 β„–26096[Quote]

>>26095
NT is not like Mach. Stop believing things you read on Wikipedia.

This is the most stupid post I've ever read. You can literally just turn off every driver in the kernel source that you don't need until the binary is less than a single megabyte, and people have. Same goes for firmware which you can also selectively install. Can you do that on Windows? No, no you can't, because you can't even compile the operating system yourself since you don't even OWN it!
>b-b-but archfedorabuntu comes with le bloat
Yeah dumbass, because the installer needs to work on every computer. After the system is installed if you're really that concerned about bloat, you can remove everything you don't need. Once again, something you can't do on windows. Well, actually maybe you can, but you'll have to tediously delete everything you don't need. Oh, and another thing: the drivers you're using can't even be compiled by you! You have to grovel before daddy Microsoft for binaries. What a cucked OS
inb4
>c-compiling is for tinkertrannies!!
even though you're comparing binary sizes, which is tinkertranny behavior
>l-lol who cares!! just use windows like a regular person!!
no
>e-ever heard of DEVICE MANAGER, you stupid chud??
id rather just run "make menuconfig" and turn off all the drivers I dont need and adjust the kernel functionality to my liking instead of clicking through 50 menus in a stupid toddler-proof UI

 β„–26098[Quote]

>>26097
>You can literally just turn off every driver
You can do this on windows without touching the source code because Windows doesn't put drivers in the kernel.
>Once again, something you can't do on windows.
You can do this on Windows
>but you'll have to tediously delete everything you don't need.
pnputil /delete-driver shitfart.inf

not transing my computer sorry

>loonix cold boot ram usage 300m
>wangblows cold boot ram usage 2gb
that bloat is only on disk the kernel loads only the modules it needs in ram

 β„–26227[Quote]

>>26224
So does Windows. Windows NT 3 can run in 12MB of RAM and has basically the same features as Linux. Windows 95 can run in 8. unused disk space and memory is wasted.

It can run FireFox 2 from 2007. The advancedness of an OS is not contingent on what browsers you can use. You can run Firefox 52 on OS/2 doesn’t change the fact that OS/2 stinks.
