So I heard about a Bible study group in a local church, I'm thinking about joining.
Not sure what to expect though, what actually goes on in those?

Has anyone been to one? What was the experience like?

It's just a book club but focused solely around the Bible (obviously). At least, that was my experience when I used to go to sunday school when I was younger.

I ran one for a while with a bunch of people from various denominations. We kept it civil until we left for the pub where we just spent hours dunking on each other. Good fun - you can learn a lot if the person leading it is well read. No harm in trying it. You dont need to know much theology to be able to engage with it either

Bible studies like other actions are influenced by the skills of the organizers and the participants. You should give it a try op. Ask questions, learn and if it's not your cup of tea that's ok. What's important is you are trying to grow and do new things!

Keep it up and if you feel inclined let us know how it goes!

It's not like every group is the same.
>youth group that was just me and an autistic kid
>youth group with lame ass kids who vape
>cliquey youth group that was lame ass 20ish year olds
>some church group thing where I used to work that all of the most unreliable people went to (I never actually went I just looked at the roster)
>mens group where one of the leader dudes is chill and kind of teaches things and the other is some jew worshiping end of the world schizoboomer
>there's one guy who asks questions a lot
>some autistic guy who highlights the entire page
>everyone else is ex military and it's a kind of straightforward vibe I guess
The networking aspect might be decent if I didn't live in hillbilly town, but other than that it's a waste of an hour I could've been doing yardwork when the day is cool.
The only thing remotely appealing to me wasn't even a church group but my old boss was catholic and usually he'd have pretty interesting things to say which I got more out of than any other christcuck shjt I've endured (I might attend a catholic curch or something similar when I move away again). So there's always the possibility that there's at least one group somewhere that doesn't feel like a waste of time.
