if you have carpet make sure you put some newspaper or a trash bag down to keep the spackle/joint compound from falling on the carpet. it's a nuisance to clean up.

I did not realize that the wall was gray. that will make painting over the patch a little difficult, as while the texture work can copied by dabbing a sponge on it(i think for that pattern?) painting over it will be what gives away the patch.

Regardless, it looks like you are well on the way to fixing that hole. Good job.
