why is it so hard to sleep? I do a lot of exercise everyday, I barely eat, I don't jerk off anymore, and I don't use my phone or anything before I sleep, yet it still takes an hour minimum if just laying in bed and looking at the ceiling to fall asleep. it feels like I have too many thoughts in my head and I usually sleep better when I take melatonin or something but last time I did that it fucked up my sleep even more for the rest of the week. what should I do?

You probably have a condition that affects your sleep.

Go see a psychiatrist and get tested for the most common things: bipolar, ADHD, depression (in this order).

Bipolar is by far the most common illness (70%) and the most misdiagnosed as ADHD or depression.

Once you are positive that you don't have any of the above, get sleeping pills (they're cope but better than nothing).

When did this start?

Lets keep >>43123 on the table. If your sleep problems have been going on for a while then seeing a doctor about this will go a long way.

How much: coffee, tea, and soda are you drinking? What time do you stop? If i drink a coffee or a tea past 7 i am going to tossing and turning in the bed.

>it feels like I have too many thoughts in my head

Do those thoughts have a theme? are you laying there at night thinking about money, people that angered you, or is it truly just your mind wondering? If it is the old wandering mind try reading. A book not a screen, but do this change on a weekend when you have no plans incase you are the type to get sucked into a book and forget about the time. Counting and praying may help. That's right, praying, there is a reason why so many religions have you pray before bed. It's a life hack to settle the wandering mind.

IF those thoughts DO have a theme, well that's the problem. Worry, will keep you awake. Sometimes we develop worries and not realize it.

I might have depression or something, I don't wanna be a pick me faggot doe and self diagnose myself. I only drink water, and usually I'm just thinking about different memories or random scenarios but reading does nothing for me, I usually pray if I cant stop thinking about lustful things but otherwise I just shut my eyes or look at the ceiling.

Try working out before bed, being physically tired might make it easier to sleep.

 β„–43199[Quote]

>>43198
I usually do this but it doesn't help

 β„–43201[Quote]

>>43199
Then try doing something that will make you mentally tired, like crossword or something. That might be your problem

 β„–43210[Quote]

>>43201
that makes sense. thanks for the advice mister.

You're retarded. Melatonin works

TL/DR >>43123 hit on something good, it sounds like you have exhausted all your tools and techniques so you should consider the medical route. Make an "improvement journal" so when you talk to the professional of your choice you can tell them exactly what is going on and they can get to work faster. Before you take any pills ask questions about those pills, and learn how to identify the side effects.

>, I usually pray if I cant stop thinking about lustful things
That's normal. We are hard wired to be fruitful and multiply. For thousands of years, you would have been at the age where you were first established. Prefect time for starting a family. Living past 13 meant society could trust you because you were not dead, and by your early 20s you would have a wife and be working on your first kid.

Those times were simpler, but a pitfall we have is we equate simpler to better. Our ancestors who struggled through those times and now we have removed so many filters and our world is safer. Yet it has more problems.

This is because success can destroy the unprepared. We have had so much success in our culture that we are burdened by it, and my hunch is that's why everyone is unhappy now. But that is conversation for later.

Depression is a weird thing. I suspect at some point in our lives we all go through it as our brain makes more wrinkles, as our pituitary gland calcifies, and all sorts of other brain stuff i will NOT pretend to understand. The GREAT news is you are not alone in this. The horrible news is this is there is still a lot we don't understand.

What's important here, is you have identified a problem, have tried to work through it, and correctly asked for help when you got stuck. That's a very important skill to have! Hang in there friend.

dont sleep, if you are TRYING to sleep, you didn't need the sleep to begin with. your body is getting the rest it needs, use the spare time

 β„–43698[Quote]

Punch the air until your arms are too weak to even do a single punch, the kick the bed until yours legs can't kick no more, spin your head back and forth until your neck hurts/you start to feel sick or dizzy, and then (if you can, depends on where you live and with who) scream until your voice goes hoarse. Repeat again and again until you sleep.

Taking and hour to fall asleep is more normal than you think it’s is
Definitely don’t get hooked on sleep meds that will ruin you because once you build up a resistance and they won’t work you just won’t be able to sleep

that makes sense

Not once in my life did I have sleep issues. Many times I drink tea or coffee right before bed, as well as stare at a screen. Then I go sleep for 10 hours.
Is something wrong with me?

 β„–43760[Quote]

>>43751
that sounds great, seems like you might just be a very tired person

 β„–43797[Quote]

>>43751
You have ADHD, dude. I get tired when my Adderall kicks in because it calms me down so much. It's a sure sign it's ADHD.

okay, this is going to sound counterintuitive, but unironically, more cafeine
before I was sleeping 10-11h/day, but waking up intermittently and still tired at daytime, so I thought "well fuck it"
I started taking caffeine pills (2x 400mg/day) with the idea of at least being less tired throughout the day, but i've noticed I can finally sleep without waking up every 2 hours

Further proof of ADHD. Stimulants don't "up" us with ADHD. It actually calms us down. It's a paradoxial effect that doctors can use to determine if the person actually has ADHD or not. Get evaluated. Join us.

My psychologist told me not to work out before bed because even though you're tired afterwards the released chemicals make it harder to sleep.
I also noticed some granola bars I was eating had caffeine in them and they were definitely fucking up my sleep because I'd usually have one before going to bed.

 β„–43974[Quote]

>>43958
>the two commonly co-occur with each other
do they? I guess that makes sense.
>further proof of ADHD. stimulants don't "up" is with ADHD.
I'll try drinking coffee or something before bed.

>Further proof of ADHD.
I've tried stronger stimulants (kratom, ritalin) but they've quite different effects
the effects of ritalin are more influenced by genetics than ADHD or NON-ADHD (lost the study albeit)
