Kiev International Institute of Sociology poll, Feb. 2014: 41% of Crimea supports the annexation of all of Ukraine by Russia. 68% support the abolition of borders between Ukraine and Russia.

Pew Research Center poll, May 2014: 91% of voters in the poll to join Russia state that it was free and fair, and 88% demand Ukrainian recognition of the results.
Donets'k, Kharkiv, Luhans'k Oblasts(East Ukraine) - 92.7% of the region natively speaks Russian.
Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Kherson, Crimea, Odessa, Mykolayiv Oblasts (South Ukraine) - 84.5% of the region natively speak Russian. In these Oblasts' namesake capital cities, Russian speakers made up 80-90%. (Kiev International Institute of Sociology, 2003)
2014 Donbass independence referendum results:
Donets'k Oblast - 89.07% in favor of independence.
Luhans'k Oblast - 96.2% in favor of independence.
The reason these results are called a "sham" by the west is due to the fact they weren't permitted by the Ukrainian government; how absolutely fucking retarded is that? Why should they have gotten their permission? The Ukrainian government made the Russian language practically illegal, banned/criminalized all talks of federalization and autonomy, and were vehemently hostile to their Russian population. To have gotten Ukraines permission would have been pure banality, not withstanding the fact that Ukraine was and still is internationally considered one of the most corrupt countries in the world. The fact remains that this referendum clearly and unequivocally represented the interests of Donets'k and Luhans'k, even if the polls were undertaken hastily in the face of Ukrainian shelling.
It is worth mentioning that in the 2014 Ukrainian presidential elections, every single Russian speaking Oblast in Ukraine voted for or was led by at least 20% by the pro-Russian candidate Yanukovych, and were the only Oblasts where this ocurred.
2022 referendum for accession to Russian statehood/annexation by Russia by Oblast:
Donets'k - 99.23% in favor.
Luhans'k - 98.42% in favor.
Zaporizhia - 93.11% in favor.
Kherson - 87.05% in favor.
Russia was simply acting on behalf of ethnic Russians/native Russian speakers who were continuously denied their rights, voices and freedoms guaranteed to them by the Ukrainian constitution. Once the dream of an independent, prosperous Ukraine wore off, they rebelled. It is literally no different from the American Revolution.
Ukraine was colonized by NATO. I'll tell you why they weren't given membership though - much like with Serbia and the EU, Ukraine making little concessions here and there to NATO with the promise of entry one day is infinitely more valuable to NATO than taking on another burden. Fuck Ukraine.

ukraine is irrelavant here. it's actually west vs russia here. before the fall of ussr, nato promised gorbachev not to advance 1 inch to the east. obviously this promise was not kept, and bush and obama started adding more countries to nato. in 2008, putin gave a 20 minutes speech at berlin, this was arguebly his most important speech and the speech that defined the coming two decades. he said that if the west continues to pressure russia, then it will have to respond. the maiden revolution is said to have had american prints on it. regardless, the idea of nato alleing a country right next to the borders of russia is obviosuly threatening, so then started the war.
russia is wrong for invading, nato is more wrong for trying to dominate other countries. but i think russia winning there is good, because it will challenge the butcherous american unipolarity and maybe usher multipolarity. i feel sorry for ukrainians, nobody should experience what they had to. fuck the us, fuck nato, and fuck russia
