Lots of great ARs are MD-legal. Any gun that is marketed as "heavy barrel" is g2g per MSP. You can also get any gun that does not have interchangeable parts with milspec. This includes LWRCs, knights SR-15s due to the straight gas tube, and LMTs due to the monolithic upper. There are many ways to thread this needle.
Also, modern rifles such as the SCAR, bren 2, etc are just legal outright. 5.56 AKs are g2g as well.

.223 Wylde also counts as "heavy barrel" I think. At least I've never been rejected for a .223 Wylde transfer at my FFL.
