Never heard of or seen any such overlap. They absolutely do not. You might be baiting, but whatever. I've always loved Azumanga and never liked NGE. I didn't downright hate it at first, immediately, but I quickly started to. Haven't seen NGE in over 15 years. Only seen it three times from what I can recall, and one of those times was just because I was at a friend's place and we watched it together. In comparison I've long ago lost count of how many times I've seen and read Azumanga.

If you're really seeing some sort of pattern of Azu fans liking NGE then those people I'm guessing are the very newest additions to the fanbase. Wouldn't be surprised if many of them are into overhyped normalfaggot garbage like NGE.

If you take 1000 random normalfaggots who know what anime is and have seen one or maybe two, but they're not really "into anime" at all, and ask them "Have you heard the name Evangelion?" then over 800, maybe over 900 of them, will answer yes. Ask them if they recognize the name "Azumanga Daioh" and less than 50, maybe just 5, will answer yes. NGE is vastly more well-known, in comparison. Very few animes are more well known amongst normalfaggots. Pokemon and Dragon Ball comes to mind.
