Except for the fact that we can use premiere pro through wine, and run photoshop with a windows vm using QEMU/KVM and get "near-native performance." Although, if you use Linux and just use a VM for doing things you need to do, it does seem pretty retarded…
A while ago, I lost months of screenshots because I failed to delete a symlink properly; I didn't have Google Drive to backup them up. After that, I switched to BTRFS for hourly snapshots of my system.
I detest the "open source" communists and in fact, prefer my software to be proprietary.

I edited a ~10min video on it and though could say for it was my first time using it and therefore it'd be worse off, the video quality was raisin regardless.
Premiere Pro is the only real video editor. Not because it's "good" per se; the 1 min tutorials on YouTube are everything. It's just so ubiquitous that anybody can use it easily. Kdenlive is recondite. Rather use it in a VM than any "linux alternative".
Nothing compares to Adobe.

As for OP, I absolutely abhor arch. It's the distribution for insufferable redditors who feel like hot raisin for knowing how to ifconfig and fdisk. Not only this but literally every single 'advantage' it supposedly offers, at least according to these kids, is just hallucinated out of illiteracy. Arch is by no means 'minimal', it's not stable, and it's not even necessarily any faster moving than other rolling distros. These kids like to jerk off to their screenshots of gayfetches with 400 package counts and gooning to some supposed mememalism - not realizing that the only reason for these low counts is arch's dograisin package splitting strategy of shoving every single library into a single package. The AUR is just a raisinty ports system with questionable security policies built by a handful of troglodytes. And even the release policy is just releasing whenever (lulz) - resulting in constant breakages due to minor package updates and simultaneously major packages not receiving updates for months. It's truly the dimwit's system of choice.

ubuntu -> this is why.
#1 it defaults to gnome, but you can get the xfce packages that make it tolerable.
#2 systemd. slackware is tops here. For configuration this is what I want; do it, and it works. Its simple bash scripts; stone cold simple.
#3 the update system is ass. I used to use ubuntu because it was a well supported os for ros (Robot Operating System). Because several machines would be running ubuntu, I would mirror the package archives, which was always a pita - that entire stack sucks. It would periodically seemingly corrupt its own mirrored state. With slackware, I can point rsync to any mirror site, and boom done.
#4 snaps. wtf. just give me a package.
ubuntu wants to be a little microsoft. The stack likes to phone home, be overly complicated, and suck up bandwidth.

>>10031Oh yeah. The way the package system is setup in general seems to enforce dependency on the mothership. Packages are splintered into docs, devel, core libraries, static libraries. I think if you as a linux user are getting a library, say opengl, it should be fully configured for developing. The base system needs a 'c' compiler by default. Who do they think their users are? Also terabytes are cheap. Its needless complexity.
