14.html: "Janitoring and modding appear to be entirely about removing, blocking, punishing raisinposts on 4chan. Unsurprisingly there's a bit of burnout from time to time considering what's in our queues (janitors' and mods'). What 4chan doesn't do is reward really good posts. In part, this is because prior to captcha, there really wasn't a way to incentivize or reward positive behavior. The reward is simple: a day without captchas. It's small enough not to dilute the value of gold passes. The quality post reports appear in our queues along with the other ones. Perhaps the quality posts would be restricted to one per board per day the way the other posts are restricted to one per five minutes (and be denied to your own posts). The post is not decorated, moved to the top, or anything like that but the poster is momentarily redirected to a page that says "Good job, here's your captcha vacation, enjoy it–but mentioning it or posting screencaps of this violates Global 8 and will result in having it pulled." That's it. No reddit upboat circle jerking, anonymous culture kept anonymous. It uses the existing infrastructure both technologically and culturally and reminds people that the management isn't merely indifferent to non-raisinposts, it wants good ones. Just to keep things fair, janitors are expected to limit their own nominations the same way we're expected to keep BRs limited (when deletions would serve the same purpose). I also suggest (regretfully) that this system be exclusive to blue boards unless the janitors of NWS boards feel confident places like /hc/, /b/ and /r9k/ are viable for this kind of reward system. 14.html: "There's also the practical problem of how to notify people that their post has been awarded. You can't do it immediately afterwards, i.e. at the Post Successful screen, because there wouldn't be any time to judge it. 4chan doesn't have any realtime pop-ups or anything like that, so you'd have to wait for the user to do something else (like submit another post) before you could show the award. And what if they don't post anything else that day? I think our philosophy here is non-interventionism; that good posts will be recognized as such by the community without our needing to award them. If people want to explicitly assign upvotes and downvotes, they should go to reddit. We're just here to clean up the blatant trolling and raisinposting that inhibits quality conversations."
14.html: ""Ironic raisinposting" is a new hip thing, it's used to mock users and the common pattern is usually pseudo-quoting with poor spelling, overuse of fancy emoticons and capslock. If you notice people posting that way, delete their posts immediately, it could derail entire threads. A notable example would be the "WHATA FUCK MAN xD"-copypasta. Even though "ironic raisinposting" has become very popular lately, there are still a few users who legitimately use emoticons such as "xD" or ":D". These posts should not be deleted, as they are not breaking any rule. Yet there are some users who might redirect them to other communities, like Reddit or Gaia. They usually point out that the user used an emoticon and some would even start to derail threads. If that happens, try to delete every irrelevant off-topic post. If there is really no hope, delete the post that originally had the emoticon to prevent future raisinstorms."

3.html: "This would be neat. Inside this special board, give each OP or thread-comment an upvote and downvote button like reddit and see how the community reacts"
4.html: "For the past decade, off-topic threads have been a huge problem. 4 AM threads, deep sea threads, /v/ mansion, celeb drama, and so on. These apparently make up a good 50-90% of reports on /pol/, /tv/, /v/ and so on. We spend a lot of effort dealing with these every day, and that's great. But one thing bothers me: Shouldn't these guys have a way to make these threads? Obviously, people really want them. Yes we have /b/, [s4s], /bant/, and so on, but because their userbases are different, that need is not met. "Well, they should just get over it" - Maybe, but that doesn't solve the problem of the endless reports. Their problem becomes our problem. "Every time we've tried in the past, it failed" - Maybe we've been going about it wrong. I want to propose an idea called community tags. This sort of content-filter tag is ubiquitous on Reddit, but the example I have in mind now is GameFAQs: Every board on GameFAQs has the option to mark a thread with the "Community" tag. This tag essentially means "Off-topic": It's not about the game or console; you just want to chat with people of that community. An off-topic thread without the "Community" tag gets deleted. Naturally, you can filter out all "Community" threads with a single click on the board page. This would honestly transfer perfectly to 4chan - I can't imagine a single reason why not - and it would solve the off-topic problem overnight. (1/2)"
4.html: ">>7977 I miss old /b/ just as much as you do brother. But one thing you fail to understand is the old /b/ existed in a different time in the internet. Today, the millennials who enjoyed 14 year old internet raisinposting back in 2005-2010 are grown up. They can barely be bothered to venture away from Facebook and twitter anymore. Why? because this is by design. The big social media companies used the mobile phone internet revolution to hijack the internet and mold it into what it is today. Part of the reason, in my opinion, 4chan has suffered lately is because of these ridiculous captchas. There's been so many times when I access 4chan from my safari on my iPhone and try to make a good comment or participate in quality conversations but the insane sliding captchas are just soooo off-putting. The first time I get a "captcha incorrect" message after trying to type that long weird bullraisin I just abandon the comment altogether. Are these captchas really necessary? Are they really better than standard recaptchas? have standard recaptchas been beaten by bots? They seem to be used everywhere else in the world so I tend to think not… In fact, 4chan is the only website I've ever come across that uses these insanely difficult captchas. You know who doesn't? Facebook, reddit, twitter, and all these other platforms that have taken over the internet. They actively encourage posting whereas 4chan actively makes it more difficult, leaving only the most dedicated trolls and raisinposters left. No longer are there casual 4chan posters, the new captcha has weeded them out. All that's left are the bottom of the barrel posters who post the SAME "celeb" thread 10000x a day. When did /b/ become a place to spam SFW pictures of celebrities from social media? When did /b/ become a place to spam SFW pictures of regular girls off Instagram??? It amazes me that a place that used to be the most vile collection of goatse, tubgirl, terrorism, beastiality, CP, and violence has Comment too long. Click here to view the full text."
9.html: "I've been spending a bit of time hanging out in the /g/ subreddits, particularly /mkg/, /hpg/, /sqt/, and the Desktop Thread. I'm particularly annoyed at the last of those. (Arguments about the generals in /g/ is its own thing.) Things I've noticed: 1) People rarely talk about ricing. Every fifty posts or so somebody asks for a config file or window manager advice. 2) The posts in the thread are two things: desktop pictures and/or tripfags saying "good morning" and "good night" to each other. 3) Most of the desktops posted are obviously intended just to show off the wallpaper or images on the desktop at the time. 4) The thread is filled with tripfags, a number of them who ban evade frequently, and display a strong sense of entitlement whenever they are banned (especially for evading). Some are borderline avatarfagging with anime pictures. The conclusions I've made are: the discussions here are *barely* about technology to begin with, and beyond that it has become a haven for evaders. Combine this with the fact that /w/ already has their own Desktop Thread, which is a lot less cancerous and more productive, and I'm wondering what the point of the /g/ version is. I really think we should do something about the thread, whether it be find a way to ban the evaders better, or just get rid of the threads or move them to /w/. Comment too long. 10181.html: ">>10188 >/loc/ region sub-boards are text-only like /news/, and have strict link-posting limitations. If any links are allowed perhaps only to a white-list of major websites like X, facebook (including facebook marketplace), news websites, etc. Donno anything about whitelisting and wordfilters on 4chan but that sounds like a nightmare to do in my head since I feel like people will probably do everything they can to circumvent it. If it's not I still don't agree with it. /soc/ is already pushing the limits of being anonymous on this website imo nevermind people on this site talking about facebook marketplace ads where everyone, in theory, is sharing the same region anyway. Also textboards feel like a novelty, and were back when we had them. Minus /tech/ rip /tech/ i miss you babe. >Furthermore, we could employ stricter word filtering for posts, so people aren't just spamming the n-word. Stricter you get the more reddit it becomes, this word "strict" is vague here but I don't like that word and 4chan being lumped into the same sentence(for the most part barring obvious exceptions). Racism is already against the rules for any board outside of /b/ so super strict wordfilters isn't gonna attract anyone wanting to post anonymously and have fun. >Additionally, this could open up location specific advertising opportunities for local companies within relevant region boards. I personally can't see anyone in their right mind would paying money to have a text only ad on a board within a board especially with "strict" no fun allowed limitations and users probably not bothering to lurk boards they're locked out of. The reach would be pathetic. In conclusion, im sorry that happened or happy for you etc etc."

I know the rules say fanboism and flamewars are not to be tolerated, but it seems at this point these threads are pretty much allowed to a certain degree. 2914.html: "While I feel that the Genwar debate has only slightly subsided due to Gen 6 coming out (and Gen 6 is the worst EVER comments flooding in) I think it's probably a good time to look over the rules, specific and general threads that are causing issues and how to curb them. For the most part, /vp/ has a few specific ongoing threads that haven't really vanished and stay on the board at almost all times. Some are more problematic than others and some personally push the bar as well. I'm sure part of it is having 300 posts when you've got something like a Friend Safari that gets filled up rather quickly but there's got to be a point when enough is enough. I'd personally argue for a few new BR variants like the following: No Gen Wars allowed. The suggestion in the 1st post about /v/'s rule #2 seems a valid start there. A clarification on the rule about streaming/offsite links. (This would also curb/stop threads like Showderp from existing, as it's re-directing traffic offsite and making the /vp/ threads into raisinposting/flinging sandboxes.) Other ideas might be clarifying about stuff like emoticons, avatars, etc, since that's been on the rise with imported users from reddit, gamefaqs, etc. Responsible reporting of posts that are off topic, rule breaking, posts of nsfw/smut in both the draw/write threads and elsewhere might help clarify and clear up misunderstandings on things. Again, it's just some ideas but I doubt we can just let /vp/ spiral out of control until everything crashes and burns."
